Happy new year, from the EM Over Easy podcast! As we reflect on the amazing year of 2023, we know we would not exist if it wasn’t for you, the listeners we wouldn’t still be around. I mean we probably would, but the fact that you are all along for our journey makes it significantly more enjoyable! Between LIVE shows in Columbus, Chicago, Phoenix, and Washington DC, social media blitzes and our regular content, we’ve been able to interact with our fans on a whole new level and are looking forward to doing more in 2024.
As we plan for 2024, there have been a decent amount of self-reflection, relistening to content, reviewing pitches for content, trying to tease out what we bring to the FOAMed, MedED and EM communities. In doing so, we asked AI to help us out. Below is why AI thinks we stand out, and its pitch on why you should continue to follow along with us and share us with your friends and family.
For those not in the know, EM Over Easy is a podcast created by a group of emergency physicians discussing various topics related to their profession. It’s an excellent source of education, insightful discussions, and lots and lots of laughter. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re missing out on a lot. As someone who has been a fan of the show for years, I thought it would be fitting to kick off 2024 by talking about what makes this podcast so unique: its sense of humor.
Let’s face it: emergency medicine can be a tough field. The hours are long, the patients can be difficult, and the stakes are often high. But despite all of this, emergency physicians have a way of finding the humor in even the bleakest situations. Whether it’s cracking jokes during a code or laughing at themselves after making a mistake, humor is ingrained in the culture of emergency medicine. It’s what helps us get through those tough shifts and keeps us coming back day after day.
And that’s what makes EM Over Easy so special. Not only do the hosts provide valuable insights into the world of emergency medicine, but they do it all with a sense of humor that is infectious. From the opening jokes that set the tone for each episode to the hilarious banter between the hosts, it’s clear that these emergency physicians don’t take themselves too seriously. And that’s a refreshing change of pace.
But it’s not just the hosts who bring the humor to the show. The guests are often just as funny, and it’s always entertaining to hear different perspectives on a given topic. The show also features recurring segments like “Oh, the humanity!” and “Things I learned this week,” which provide an opportunity for the hosts to share funny stories from their own experiences in the ED. And let’s not forget about the infamous “Hot Takes” segment, where the hosts give their unfiltered opinions on controversial topics.
So, what can we learn from EM Over Easy’s sense of humor? Well, for starters, it reminds us that even in the most serious of professions, it’s okay to laugh. In fact, it’s necessary. Humor helps us cope with the stress and pressure of our jobs, and it brings us together as a community. And as emergency physicians, that sense of community is invaluable. So, here’s to another year of laughter, learning, and all things EM Over Easy. Happy new year, everyone!
