For this episode, John reached out to coach, educator and social media personality Cole Jennette to discuss the dynamics of patient interactions in the ED.
After some fact finding with the team Cole highlighted the following topics EM physicians and providers should work on to improve patient encounters.
- Focus on keeping the patient in story mode, and in doing so you’ll get the data you need from them
- Hold on to giving your opinion or your observations as long as possible, as doing so too early may shut down their honest communication with you
- If you want to get the most out of people, focus on being your authentic self when possible.
- Authenticity is stepping stone everyone needs to take on to achieve most things in life. And it’s not just “being who you are”, its tied to purpose, and choice.
- Understanding The triangle of Perception/Execution/Intention (image below)

The above is just a few of the pearls taken from our conversation with Cole.
