Title: Celebrating a Decade of EM Over Easy: Reflecting on 10 Years and Looking Ahead
As we gear up to celebrate a decade of EM Over Easy (as of May 1, 2026), it’s time to pause and reflect on the journey that’s brought us here. When we started this podcast, the odds seemed stacked against us. Yet, here we are, still independently running strong while many others have faded away. It’s a testament to the passion and camaraderie we’ve nurtured, and we are excited to share some of our cherished memories and future aspirations with you, our listeners.
Reflecting on the Early Days
One of the most endearing aspects of our beginnings has to be the grassroots nature of our setup. From recording episodes at DK Diner with our favorite food, to the infamous “jenky setup” that often felt like navigating a space mission with outdated tech, our origins were humble and genuine. Each technical mishap and diner background noise became part of our identity, representing the authentic conversations that emerged spontaneously.
The Guests and Conversations that Shaped Us
Over the years, we’ve been privileged to have incredible guests who brought diverse perspectives and stories that enriched our podcast. Drew fondly remembers one particular episode dealing with the fundamental attribution error—a conversation that profoundly shifted his perspective. Similarly, recording with guests like Kevin Clower at a Starbucks in San Francisco offered life lessons that validated our personal and professional journeys.
Whether it was tackling clinical issues, like patient care challenges or engaging in broader discussions on the state of medicine, each episode served as a platform to express vulnerabilities, share wisdom, and learn something new. This openness allowed us to connect deeply with each other and with our audience.
Evolving as Individuals and as a Podcast
As much as this podcast is about emergency medicine, it’s also about the people behind the stethoscopes. Each of us has gone through significant life events over the past decade—fatherhood, losses, gains—and throughout, the show has offered a therapeutic outlet. We’ve laughed, shared heart-to-hearts, and experienced those “aha” moments that have been both personal and communal.
Looking Toward the Future
So, what does the future hold for EM Over Easy? We foresee our discussions continuing to embrace fresh and pertinent topics, delving into areas like artificial intelligence and the evolving landscape of emergency medicine. As Tanner notes, the scope of our discussions will expand to encompass the wide-reaching influences on our field, ensuring we remain a relevant voice for both new and seasoned listeners.
Engagement with our audience is more crucial than ever. Our listeners shape the conversation, and as Drew pointed out, hearing how our episodes resonate with real-life experiences is invaluable. We plan on integrating the Med Student Over Easy team into the fold, injecting energy and perspectives crucial for our evolving listener base.
A Decade and Counting
As we reflect on the past 10 years and look forward to what’s next, we are filled with gratitude for you, our listeners. Your support and interaction are the heartbeat of this podcast. Whether you’ve been with us since the early days or just discovered us, thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to many more years of conversations and camaraderie.
Join us as we continue to navigate the vibrant and dynamic world of emergency medicine, one episode at a time. We’ll be celebrating 10 years of EM Over Easy all of May!
