In this episode, Drew leads John, Tanner, and Andy through a round of This or That, where he asks about one thing versus the other, and the crew has to choose one and tell us why they chose it. Drew starts easy, but definitely brings the controversy. Listen as they talk Breakfast, Benadryl, and Dolly Parton.

Eggs Over Easy or Scrambled Eggs?
  • John and Andy – Over Easy
  • Tanner and Drew  – Depends on the dish
Scrubs vs Business Casual On Shift?
  • Andy – Business casual, especially now as a PD.
  • John – Business casual
  • Tanner – Scrubs and only scrubs, especially if you care about getting blood on your nice clothes. Patients expect us to wear scrubs.
  • Drew – Joggers that look like scrubs, t-shirts, and a vest on shift. Business casual for admin meetings.
Normal Saline (NS) vs More Balanced Fluids (LR, plasmalyte, etc.) for Critical Illness?
  • Andy – LR is great after the first few hours, but NS is still the most readily available.
  • John and Tanner – First two bags of fluid are typically NS. LR in some outliers who are very clearly differentiated.
  • Drew – NS for logistical reasons to start because LR isn’t compatible with a lot of the other medications we give to critically ill patients, so until you have better access, NS is the way to go.
Diphenhydramine vs Anything Else?
  • Andy and John – Yes, diphenhydramine for patients who present with migraines who expect it because they have been getting it for their migraines for a long time.
  • Tanner – Yes for itching in an allergic reaction. Not in anaphylaxis.
  • John – Definitely not giving it IV because it has a euphoric effect, which is why patients will sometimes ask for it.
  • Drew – Only giving it in the IV contrast allergy order set because it is developed by radiology. Uses loratidine when patients are able to tolerate PO. If patients can’t tolerate PO in an allergic reaction, give epinephrine.
Rock vs Country Music?
  • John – There’s good country music and good rock music. There’s also bad music in both genres. Have an open mind. Lots of love for Dolly Parton.
  • Tanner – Both, but the older stuff.
  • Drew – Rock all the way!
  • Andy – Likes country music on shift.
